IDS's Hybrid 4PL Solution
Transportation is a crucial link in the supply chain of modern organizations. At the same time, logistics are becoming increasingly complex. Companies work with multiple carriers, customer expectations are putting pressure on costs and performance, and market developments are putting pressure on the future viability of chosen strategies. As a result, many organizations face a difficult choice: whether to manage transportation in-house or outsource it.
The hybrid solution
IDS’s Control Tower solution offers a third way: a hybrid solution. As an independent 4PL logistics partner, IDS helps organizations maintain control over transport management without having to invest in their own Transport Management System. Companies gain access to a centralized transport environment where they retain control over transport orders, shipment status, and performance. At the same time, they can rely on IDS’s expertise and, where desired, operational support.
To align with different levels of logistics maturity, the hybrid Control Tower consists of several models: Connect, Pro, and Managed. Each model offers a different level of operational support and control, allowing organizations to easily choose what best fits their logistics strategy.

Today’s Logistical Challenges
Supply chain managers are facing increasingly complex logistical challenges. Transportation costs are difficult to predict and fluctuate due to factors such as capacity, fuel prices, and international developments. At the same time, customers expect ever-higher service levels and real-time visibility into shipments.
However, many organizations lack a complete overview of their transportation performance. Data is scattered across different systems and carriers, making it difficult to analyze performance or implement structural improvements.
Developing an in-house TMS often seems like a logical step, but such systems require significant investment and extensive implementation. For many organizations, this creates a gap between simple solutions—such as spreadsheets—that are no longer sufficient, and complex logistics software that is a bridge too far.
IDS’s Hybrid Solution
IDS’s hybrid 4PL solution bridges this very gap. Organizations gain access to a powerful transport management environment without having to implement a TMS themselves.
IDS configures the platform, establishes data connections with carriers, and ensures an efficient flow of information within the supply chain. This creates complete transparency regarding transport orders, shipment statuses, and logistics performance.
The customer retains control over transport decisions. Depending on the chosen service model, the organization can operate completely independently or leverage IDS’s expertise and management.
The result is a logistics model that is scalable, flexible, and data-driven. Organizations gain control over transport costs, improve their logistics performance, and simultaneously maintain control over their supply chain.
Three levels of logistics management: Connect, Pro, and Managed
IDS’s hybrid Control Tower is designed to grow alongside the needs of organizations. That is why the solution consists of various service models tailored to different requirements for logistics management and support.
Connect: the digital foundation for visibility
The first step within IDS’s hybrid solution is Connect. This solution focuses on smart EDI/API integrations between systems, enabling transport data to be shared faster and more efficiently across supply chain partners. This creates greater visibility into transport performance, shipment statuses, and operational deviations, while significantly reducing manual work, emails, and phone calls. Connect also improves collaboration throughout the supply chain and makes it easier to proactively inform customers about their shipments.
Pro: more control and data-driven management
The Pro version combines connectivity, transport management, and insights within one central platform. IDS digitalizes and automates communication between systems and supply chain partners, reducing manual processes surrounding transport orders. From there, you manage all your transport activities in one environment: from booking shipments and tracking statuses to adding documents, generating labels, and analyzing carrier performance and costs.
Carriers can share updates through a carrier portal, while customers gain real-time visibility into shipment ETAs. In addition, you receive a quarterly carrier performance report to further optimize performance. IDS supports you with setup, analyses, and optimization recommendations, while you remain fully in control. This hybrid approach makes Pro especially attractive for organizations looking to professionalize without fully outsourcing their transport operations.
Managed: maximum support without losing control
With Control Tower Managed, IDS takes over the operational transport management while you retain control. Acting as an extension of your organization, IDS supports daily transport coordination, carrier performance management, network optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives. Additional add-ons, such as tender support, allow the service to be further tailored to your organization’s needs.
Because IDS operates fully independently, without its own carriers or transport assets, the focus is always on selecting the most suitable transport solution. This results in greater flexibility, transparency, and continuous optimization opportunities.
Who We Are: Independent 4PL Logistics Director
IDS is an independent logistics service provider without its own transport assets. This means we do not own any trucks or transport capacity, allowing us to operate with complete objectivity within logistics networks.
As a 4PL service provider, IDS acts as a coordinator within our clients’ supply chains. We connect carriers, systems, and data into a single transparent logistics ecosystem. In doing so, we combine technology, integrations, and logistics expertise to help organizations better organize their transport flows.
This approach allows companies to work with multiple carriers, automate processes, and improve logistics performance without having to implement complex systems themselves or relinquish full control of logistics operations.
What we do: a Control Tower for transport management
IDS’s hybrid Control Tower serves as the central platform for transport management. In this environment, organizations manage their transport orders, track shipments, and gain insight into logistics performance. All relevant information is consolidated into a single, clear overview.
IDS handles the configuration of the platform, the connections with carriers, and the integration with existing systems. This enables an efficient exchange of logistics data within the supply chain.
This allows organizations to retain control over their transport processes while benefiting from real-time visibility and streamlined collaboration with carriers.
Why Organizations Choose IDS
Organizations choose IDS because our scalable approach combines control and flexibility. Companies retain control over their own transport management while benefiting from technology, logistics expertise, and operational support.
Whether an organization chooses the Connect model, the flexibility of Pro, or the strategic management of Managed, IDS’s hybrid Control Tower offers a future-proof way to organize logistics.
